Comp Cards for Child Actors and Models

What comp cards are, what they should contain and how represented families can keep this simple casting summary accurate and useful.

A quick definition

What is a comp card?

A comp card—sometimes called a composite or z-card—is a one-page summary used to present a performer or model. It usually combines a main headshot, a few supporting images and concise profile details.

It does not replace a complete agency or Spotlight profile. Its value is speed: a casting professional can see an accurate visual overview at a glance.

Keep it currentPhotographs and measurements should reflect how the child looks now.
Protect private detailsUse agency contact information rather than a child's personal contact details.
Quality over quantityA few clear, relevant photographs are more useful than a crowded design.

Essential information

What to include

A clear main image

Lead with a recognisable, current head-and-shoulders photograph with natural expression and clean lighting.

Selected supporting images

Use a small number of images that add useful variety without changing or disguising the child's appearance.

Accurate profile details

Include the name used professionally, playing age, current measurements and genuinely relevant skills.

Agency contact details

Direct enquiries through the representing agency. Do not publish a child's home address, school or personal phone number.

Format choices

Digital or printed?

A well-made PDF is easy to update and share when a casting team asks for one. Printed cards can still be useful at some meetings or events, but there is little value in ordering a large quantity unless they are specifically needed.

Represented families can ask the agency for the preferred format and current branding before creating or printing anything.

Photo selection

Choose accurate, licensed images

  • Use recent photographs that look like the child in person.
  • Check that you have permission to reproduce every professional photograph.
  • Avoid filters, heavy retouching, watermarks and distracting graphics.
  • Replace the card after a significant change in appearance, measurements or contact details.

Important: A comp card is a presentation tool, not a promise of auditions or paid work.

Prepare clear, current material

Use the photo guide before choosing images, or apply with two recent natural photographs.
