What happened during the project
Ozzy was initially chosen for a professional fashion shoot in Brighton. He settled into the session, followed direction well and was comfortable in front of the camera. The team was pleased with his work and invited him to return for another shoot in Watford the following week.
Being recalled so quickly gave Ozzy another opportunity to work with a professional production team and gain experience with different outfits and poses. For his family, it also demonstrated how good preparation, patience and a positive attitude can help a young model make the most of time on set.
Children are selected for each campaign according to its particular brief. A strong performance on one project does not guarantee future work, but positive feedback and reliable behaviour can help a child build useful experience and a professional portfolio.
Review from Ozzy’s mum
Ozzy was chosen to be in a summer catalogue for Rachel Riley of London… The location was perfect and he absolutely loved it! Thank you for keeping us up to date with potential job opportunities and for always being there if we have questions or need help!! I have already recommended you to lots of friends!! — Ozzy’s mum
How children are selected for fashion shoots
For a typical childrenswear campaign, a casting team sends agencies a brief describing the ages, clothing sizes and characteristics required. An agency then submits suitable children for consideration. The client may shortlist several applicants before choosing the models who best fit the creative direction of the campaign.
Competition can be considerable because many children may be considered for a small number of places. Selection is not simply a judgement of talent or appearance: clothing size, location, availability and the needs of that individual campaign can all affect the decision.
Photographs used for submissions should be current, clear and natural. Our children’s photo guidelines explain how parents can prepare suitable images without expensive styling or heavy editing.
What parents should know
Parents play an important part in every child modelling assignment. They need to respond promptly, keep measurements and photographs up to date, manage travel and schedules, and help their child arrive rested and prepared. Most importantly, the experience should remain safe, enjoyable and appropriate for the child.
It is also important to keep expectations realistic. Auditions and submissions do not guarantee paid work, and rejection is a normal part of casting. Parents can find more practical information in our guide for parents.
